WRESTLING ON TELEVISION
The old "Classic British Professional Wrestling" is currently a rarity on British television, only shown on satellite
television's "The Wrestling Channel" and "S4C Digidol" .
Please notify The Wrestling Furnace Picture Gallery if you know of any other TV channels where it may
be seen.
For those in the UK with digital television
Keep watching the listings for:
The Wrestling Channel (Sky channel 427)
- The Wrestling Channel (www.thewrestlingchannel.tv)
opened on Monday 15th March 2004. Schedules vary, and they usually show a triple helping of
"WORLD OF SPORT" wrestling on Saturday afternoons from 2:00pm to 5:00pm - almost like the good old days on ITV!! (The same
shows are also repeated at several different times throughout the week, so viewers needn't worry if they missed it on the
Saturday).
- The basic timetable is given on their website at
www.thewrestlingchannel.tv/schedule.html.
- Most of British Wrestling's big names have been shown, including Les Kellet, Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo, Steve Veidor,
Tibor Szakacs, Count Bartelli, The Royals, Johnny Saint, Steve Grey, Jim Breaks, Jon Cortez, Ken Joyce and Rollerball Rocco,
to name just a few.
- Some excellent Classic Japanese wrestling has also been shown, with commentary in Japanese! One show featured
a tag match with the legendary Lou Thesz and Karl Gotch against a Japanese team which included Antonio Inoki.
The digital version of Welsh Channel 4 (Sky Channel 151, S4C ~ Digidol)
- Up until early 2005, the digital version of Welsh Channel 4 (Sky Channel 151, S4C ~ Digidol) re-ran some of its
half-hour long wrestling shows from the 1980s and 1990s on Saturdays under the title "Reslo". Times varied, and "Reslo" was
not shown every Saturday. Scheduling information supplied by S4C to The Wrestling Furnace was inaccurate, so check the
on-screen and magazine/newspaper listings regularly. ("Reslo" was normally shown sometime between 12 noon and 5:00pm).
Subscribers to Sky can receive this channel at no extra cost simply by telephoning Sky and requesting this service.
Commentary was in the Welsh language, and unfortunately the action was often more American than classic British style. However,
S4C did feature some good wrestling in the 1980s, after it disappeared from the ITV screens, so maybe they can be persuaded
to show repeats of this at a future date? Get sending your emails to them!!
