British Wrestling Legends
It’s great to see the good, the bad (and the ugly?) of British wrestling gathered together each year to
discuss old times over a pint and a bite to eat. But take a minute to consider the British Professional Wrestlers’
Reunion without the presentations. It’s the focal point of the day’s events. It’s what the punters have come to see – the
wrestlers receiving public recognition for the great entertainment they have provided.
One man has been working tirelessly for years to ensure this ceremony goes from strength to strength, by making and
donating the framed award certificates. That ‘unsung hero’ is Paul Douglas, who travels down from his Humberside home
each year to make a vital contribution to British professional wrestling. Paul also contributes greatly to the British
Wrestling Reunion, with regular donations from the profits of his BWL video and DVD company.
A Visit to Rocco's Lair
- The star of this year’s August reunion was Mark “Rollerball” Rocco. Without compromising his hard-man image, his
speech and the plaudits from fellow wrestlers and administrators gave glimpses of the comradeship and respect which
existed (and, very importantly, still does) amongst the wrestling fraternity.
- Inspired to find out more, Paul Douglas tracked Rocco down to his ‘mountain lair’ on a Tenerife hillside.
- Invited inside, Paul proceeds to record an interview in which Rocco tells how he became involved in wrestling. His
father Jim Hussey was obviously a major factor, but not his main tutor. So who was responsible for coaching the young
sportsman to become a competent wrestler? The fans screamed for his blood. How did that feel from his perspective? What
was it like to wrestle in front of 80,000 fans in Japan? Which of Rocco's matches made promoter Brian Dixon almost collapse
with amazement?
To find out the answers to these and many more questions, you'll have to buy the DVD.
- This interview preserves so many memories of wrestling, it must surely be considered a collector’s item of great
historical value in years to come. The proceeds from each DVD purchased go to the British Wrestling Reunion. Buy a copy
now, and you’ll not only be helping the British Wrestling Reunion, you’ll also be helping yourself to a significant piece
of wrestling history.
